Question:

How true that the heavier of weights (esp, barbells & dumbbells) that you use the better the result?

  1. 100% True ... why!?

    Because by lifting heavier weights, your muscles need to spend more efforts, which means they need more sugar to burn => more fat to be broken to sugar so your muscles can burn it ...

    and the more you practice the more your muscles get bigger.

    but you should be aware that you have to start lifting weight gradually so you get to heavier weights .. or you are gonna damage your back or your muscles

  2. I think it's better to do more reps. Say its probably better to do 3x15 reps of 3kg dumbells than 1x15 reps of 6kg dumbells, and then increase the weight slowly, over weeks/months not days. This way you won't strain yourself either.  

  3. It depends on what results you are going for.

    If you are an absolute beginner, then it is better for you to use lighter weights ONLY until you learn good form.  This should only take you a few workouts.  After this it's all about lifting heavy.  By heavy, I mean you should be using a weight that completely exhausts your muscles after 8-10 reps, so that after your last rep you are completely unable to lift it again.  For a beginner I would recommend 2-3 sets of 8-10 reps, eventually working up to 4-5 sets.  Lifting at this heavy of a weight will give you optimum results of muscle growth.  This is what you want to do if you want to be strong, get bigger muscles, and lose body fat.  This is why most people lift weights.

    Lifting a weight for 10 or more reps will not give you great definition, but is good for muscle endurance.  This is what you want to do if you are a marathon runner for example, or are training to do other types of physical activity for extremely long periods of time.

    If its sheer power and strength you are going for, you'll want to choose a weight that exhausts your muscles after 5-8 reps.  Again, not the best option if you want to get that cut bodybuilder look, but excellent to make you stronger more quickly.

  4. probly alot. i mean u gotta get stronger after lifting weights right. u cant stay on the same weight and expect to get stronger once u reach ur peack on that weight level. u gotta go higher weight to get stronger....after about a month on one weight level go up higher by about 3-5 kgs. if that works for you. or expirement.

  5. If you want to be strong, then go heavier with less reps. If you want definition, then go lighter with more reps.

    The most important aspect of weight lifting, especially for beginners, is using proper technique.  If you try to lift too much weight, you will not use proper technique because you are struggling to lift the weight.  If that happens you will receive very little benefit from your workouts.  Start with lower weights.  As you become comfortable with the technique then you can start increasing the weight.
