Question:

How useful is it to take a high school Physiology class if you won't necessarily be going into healthcare?

I got the class thinking I might want to be a doctor or psychologist but now I'm thinking I don't want to work in the health industry. It also takes up two periods. Are there any useful things about having background knowledge of anatomy and physiology? Else-wise I might switch out of the class. Thanks.

  1. Physiology was one of the most interesting courses I ever took.  Granted, it is useful to me as a biologist (in the Biomedical/biotech field).  Many of the people in the class didn't have any plans to go onto anything bio-related, and they enjoyed it too.

I suppose it comes down to whether or not you want to take the course itself.  Your future career doesn't play into it too much, since whatever major you decide on, you'll be taught what you need to know in college.  Taking physiology now won't get you out of taking it later on, it just might make the second run-through a little easier.

I'd take it.  It's not an easy class, but it will give you a better idea of how the human body works, and that's a good thing, regardless of your future career.
