Question:

How valid are most course records?

I'm primarily referring to courses where professionals do not hold the record. Do the people that set these records abide closely to all rules; do they adjust their lie, etc.?

  1. honestly, if someone is good enough to be setting course records they probably don't need to cheat. The course record at my small, public course is 10 under. I could cheat the entire round and not even come close to that. I'd believe and give credit to anyone holding the record.

  2. im sure some of the records out there are slightly "adjusted"  but as the other guy said if people are good enough to shoot that score they usually dont cheat, usually.  as for all the courses i play the only way to have the course records is for it to be done during a tournament, otherwise they are held by the tour professional of the course

  3. Well one would hope that the rules were followed.....but to tell the truth...there is no way of knowing for sure.  Honesty is a fundamental part of the game...so go with what you think.

  4. Any reputable club would not post a course record unless it was witnessed by other players, and was set in accordance with the Rules of Golf.

  5. Do you feel that they cheat ? A little " hand mashie " from the sand," identifying" the ball whenever it is off the fairway ? Are we touching familiar chords?  Those who accuse, usually do. I have held a course record for two weeks.  My cousin held records as a member at two different clubs  and rest assured the scores were legitimate and witnessed. The record at our club was witnessed by the pro and second best amateur at the club and guaranteed the score was valid. Part of the integrity of this game is to abide by the rules and know the rules so that they may  be used favorably by you on occasion.
