How viable is it for a teenager to test drive an Evo *provided he comes to a dealer with a parent*

I asked a similar question a few days ago, on how I (a 19 year old college student) could possibly rent or drive an evo.

After being told by many that it just wasn't going to happen, I asked my mother, who is an awesome person, and she said that she could take me to a Mitsu dealer and pretend to be buying an evo for me as a "college present."

With this in mind, would this actually fly by a dealership? I guess I could say afterward that "I liked the WRX STi better" (not) and refuse their offer for the evo.

  1. You have to be 21 to rent any car, even a Chevy Cobalt.

You need a parent to test drive a car, and you must be interested in buying.

Everyone is obviously interested in the car, but you need to act like you are going to buy it soon. The STI plan is a good idea.

They will let you test drive it under the age of 19 only if the parent goes with you. And your parent must have a valid drivers license.

They will not let you test it yourself until you are 21 years of age.

  2. Mitsubishi conducted some of the worst war crimes in history, against American and Allied POW's. There has still never been an apology from them. We all knew what the n***s did, but Japanese torture and starvation games were overlooked for some unknown reason. Our internment camps were vacations compared to POW treatment.

I would bring this up when negotiating prices.

  3. yea that should work. I went with my friend, who was 21 at the time, to a Subaru dealer and the let him test drive the STI with no license, i think it was because he had his name on his house so they though he had some money........they wouldn even let me test drive and SRT-4!

  4. Sorry, no i do not think it would 'fly' with the dealer. It is a pretty safe bet that the dealers insurance cover will not include people of your age in cars of this group. Any test drive your mum got would be Dealer Accompanied.

You can believe the reputation of the Evo (though the latest one has softened up a lot) - i have had two and if you are a keen driver with a competitive spirit they are probably the nearest most of us ordinary wage slaves will get to a supercar.

  5. Yeah, Mitsubishi were bad. Boycott them, BMW, Audi, Porsche, Volkswagen, and Mercedes. They all worked for the Axis during WW2. Also, lets boycott Ford, Chrysler and GM for building our war planes and vehicles- which they also sold to the Axis. Yeah, Boycott them all!!! (sarcasm, but fact)

  6. Listen I'm 16, I don't even have a license yet, and I test drive everything. Most dealers give test drives for 1 hour. So I go there with my dad, and ask a few questions, say im getting a car in a month, and then ask for a test drive. Then we take it home, in the allies and I drive it!

So far I've done Nissan Altima, Ford Edge, Tourag v6, Audi TT, Kia Opirus

In the next two weeks are Mustang GT, Accord, Golf GTI and a Charger R/T

Don't sweat, just act like your going to buy.

  7. Ordinarily the dealership will not agree with anything to test drive an Evo. In certain instances, they will. A friend of mine who drives a brand new STi went to a Mitsu dealership, parked up front and walked in. He asked if he could test drive the Evo. They let him! Like the dude before me said, be presentable and look loaded. Maybe, just maybe, the dealership will let you drive the Evo, even without your momma.

  8. Mitsubishi has a policy to not let ANYONE test drive and EVO. This is because of younger people (much like yourself) who cannot afford one and want a joyride. Now I have a 2005 EVO and went to test drive one of the new ones because at one point I was interested and they even told me no. My car has 20,000 miles and was going to trade it in, but when they told me no i lookd at the guy and said F. you and had him get the manager and he told me the same thing but as I was walking out the door and was letting them know that I was going to be paying cash for the balance after trade-in they changed their tune real quick, but I still left.

  9. They probably won't even think about letting you or your mother test drive it. Because, one big reason is they check your credit and your driving record. Then when they hear that your mom wants to buy a EVO for a 19 year old for a present... they'll just laugh and say "why not just give the kiddo a corolla and let him live his life?". If you think about it... going up to a dealer saying your buying a very fast, expensive, high insurance, turbo'd, awd, sports car for your 19 year old son that just got his license about 1 or 2 years ago, its just plain crazy for me. But if your lucky enough, the dealer could just forget about everything as long as you have the money.

  10. yes you can fly by a dealership without a problem. Personally, I was 18 when i test drove a lexus IS F without being refuse service. Then again I rolled in with my bmw m3 and parked up front. And I was presentable so I think you can do it also, especially if your mom is there with you.
