How was Eastbourne hypocritical when rainforest wood was used for making their groynes?

To do with Geography; I have heard that Eastbourne was hypocritical for using a rare Greenheart rainforest wood for construction of their groynes and I am not sure why. It has something to do with the being environmentally friendly.. HELP ANYONE?
