    Peru has a president, elected every 5 years. Then they have a senate house and there are three powers: executive power (president), legislative power and judiciary power. The president nominates his ministers and the senate appoints them.

    This has been the government structure since Peru gained independence from Spain, in 1821. Before this, Peru was governed by Spain's viceroy.
