  1. I have not heard of the term ICPC - but I believe what was referred to as the Interstate Compact for us - is the same thing.  We adopted in NJ - we live in PA.  Everyone had us terrified about the Interstate Compact and how long it would take.  We were told it could take up to 2 weeks maybe even longer.  The reality is that it took a week for us.  We signed paperwork on a Thursday and by the following Thursday the interstate compact paperwork was approved and we could bring our child home.

    Good luck to you.

  3. Ours was about 1 week, but it was the new years holiday so it might be slightly quicker in some cases. Ours was between GA and CA.

  4. I've not been a parent waiting for the ICPC to go through. I have, however, had to initiate them and it can be a royal pain. Anytime you have agencies from two different states trying to get something done it takes a while. Recently, I was involved with a situation where it took about 5 weeks. I thought that was pretty quick. I've seen them take as long as a couple of months. Best thing you can do is stay on top of the agency you are working with. Bug them 2 or 3 times a week. Remember, the squeeky wheel gets the grease.

  5. Most ICPC's take about 5 working business days to get approved, at a minimum.  Some of that depends on the states procedures -- whether they use FED EX to send the approvals back and forth, etc.

But this is one of your first challenges in parenting!  You will learn patience!  Make the most of this time -- you will likely not ever have this uninterrupted time with your child again.
