  1. Karan, read this article about Vasco da Gama's landing in Calicut; you will get a good idea about the life in those times.

    India was essentially a country rich in spices and others used to trade in the same.

    on the above link, go down to 1498 and arrival in calicut....

    First of all - there was no INDIA, as such; there were a number of "kingdoms" existing on their own and people were broadly following Hindu and Budhist culture depending on where you lived; islamisation had not taken place and there was hardly any influence of christianity.

    the junta was broadly divided along caste lines and living harmoniously based on their assigned roles and the king used to take care of the praja and engage in administering justice and encourage education, depending on where you lived........


  2. We had a lot of small kingdoms. The Britishers had not yet come to India. So we were still under our own kings.

    But, the Mughal emperors had come and looted our temples.

    But music and dance were popularized.  Urdu was popular.
