How was the boundry between Maryland and Delaware decided?

  1. I thought the answer to that would be easy to find! But it's not. I do think,however, that the boundaries of the original charters were relatively vague, and were probably not completely established until after the Revolution. Certainly, natural boundaries played a role, such as the Delaware River between New Jersey and Pennsylvania. As for Maryland, I imagine there was much dispute about the Chesapeake Bay area, with Lord Baltimore claiming both the eastern and western shores. It was probably resolved after the Revolution, with our founding fathers granting that portion to Maryland to appease the governor. I say that because many concessions had to be made to the South in order to get them to sign the Declaration of Independence. Also, the southern colonies provided much of the financial backing for the Revolution and were not repaid, as promised. This actually kindled the flame leading to the Civil War (slavery was just the proximate excuse).  Anyway, I'll be looking for a definitive answer to your question.
