  1. I think Deep Run may have a case for this title.  A son of Pampered King out of the Court Martial mare Trial by Fire, he was a perennial leading National Hunt sire.  Possibly his best offspring was the mare Dawn Run.  This is a link to his pedigree page:  http://www.pedigreequery.com/deep+run

Coolmore stands a nice roster of National Hunt stallions.  Westerner and Vinnie Roe are two of their most recent additions to this roster, and I wish that breeders would use these stallions (or horses like them) to inject some stamina back into the breed.  I think the pendulum has swung too far over to the "brilliance," or speed side of things, and needs to swing back towards stamina and soundness-- both of which can be found in National Hunt stallions.

  2. The problem with national hunt stallions is that many of them are dead by the time we realise how good they are.  SUPREME LEADER is a good example of this.

Dominant NH sires for the last few seasons have been Presenting, Supreme Leader, Old Vic and Roselier.

Many of todays NH sires never ran under NH rules themselves (Old Vic was a French derby winner and Presenting was 3rd in the Epsom Derby) and are usually either failed flat stallions or staying horses that have been marketed as "dual purpose" sires.

All Thoroughbred's pedigrees trace back to the same 3 horses: The Darley Arabian, the Godolphin Arabian and the Byerly Turk.
