How was the island "Philippines" created?

I just need to know how the Philippines was created. Coral? Mud? Volcanic? Please help! Remember, 10 points to the best one!

I believe volcanic.  This is pretty much true for any islands in the "Ring of Fire" (around the perimeter of the Pacific Ocean).

The Philippines landmass was connected to Borneo by land bridges many years ago until the sea level rose and then the Philippine landmass was separated from Borneo. Many islands of the Philippines are Volcanic in origin meaning they are created by molten rock from the erupting Volcanoes.

There isn't an island called Philippines.  Rather, the Philippines is an archepelago of islands, and the general origin is volcanic.
