How was the religion encompassed in the great awakening different from the traditional religion?

  1. There were several great awakenings so I dont really know which one your referring to. During most great awakenings there is a general train of thought that ruled how religion was viewed. In America at least it tended to follow Heart over head, then Head over heart, whether God was merciful or spiteful, etc. Traditional religion played a role as the "middle class" where certain key values stayed the same throughout.
