    SESSION 2

My controlling idea was that people need to have a more positive attitude toward nature because it is being destroyed by development and people that don't.

From passage 1, I used the symbol of the grass representing nature trying to survive but being paved over... and imagery both good and bad of beautiful nature but terrible development. For passage 2 I used the plane flying over the desert as a symbol for industrialization attacking nature. When it flew over, the animals scattered and were scared of it, like it was intruding just as development is intruding on nature. I also used the simile that compared the hunters' camp to ruins.. it says: "there was nothing but the formation of rocks jutting from the earth like weather warn ruins" or something. I said their houses are like ruins because they've intruded on nature and now destroyed that section.

    1) First line introduces a setting

    2) Leaf shape is described with a simili

    3) Trees are replaced by pavement

    4) "They've" refers to CONSTRUCTION WORKERS

    5) The image is growing grass

    6) The plains are dry and ABUNDANT

    7) The animals are familiar

    8) The Avian is a plane

    9) "Little puffs of dust" are fleeing animals

    10) The comical animals is the wildebeast

For Part II I interpreted the quote as saying that "humans and characters in books will try repeatedly but will almost always fail". Then I used The Things They Carried and The Glass Menagerie for proving it TRUE... In the Things They Carried I used Norman Bowker driving around the lake, saying the lake is a metaphor. He keeps driving around, can't escape, and the fact that he went around "12 times clockwise" shows that it's a metaphor for a clock and time passing. Then I described how he wanted to tell someone about the **** field but couldn't. He kept failing in his imagination- with his father and girlfriend. And he failed to get it out, so he killed himself. Then I discussed the story about Tim going north to Canada and his internal conflict and not making up his mind whether to cross. He tried to get away, but failed to the pressures of society's views and his own worries about being a coward. As a result, he did the cowardly thing and went to war.

In the Glass Menagerie I talked about Tom trying to get away from his family, but then revealing the metaphor that "cities swept around like dead leaves, torn away from branches.." which means that he is like a dead leave, torn from his family that he still can't get away from... Then I also talked about Laura being a dynamic character. At the beginning she has the want to get away, but after Jim shoots her down that desire is completely gone and she changes to being completely closed up. She TRIED to get away, but FAILED.

So, yeah.. I hope that helps cause that took me like 45 minutes lol.

  5. Both days of the english regents bored me to death. I could not get myself to write the essays, and began writing an hour and a half into the test, spending the time prior to that looking out of the window (perhaps I was allowing for nature to inspire me). : D. As for the second part of your question, for today's english regents a score of 26 on the multiple choice and 5 on all of the essays would get you a 93, 7 points below 100. Here is the conversion chart for the english regents for all of you who want it.

  6. For part two the answers i got were 2341311314 if that helps anyone,    kids in my class agreed with them

  7. I think it was rather easy, too easy in fact, i hope i did well, i did take a few risk like disagreeing with the quote, but hopefully i pulled it off. at first i thought this regents would be a bit of a bummer, two days, 3 hours each, but i really enjoyed it!
