  2. education

  3. we both will go to rural places and work hard to develope our

    indian agriculture

  4. From what I've been able to read, agriculture in India is doing pretty well.  They are producing enough grain to feed themselves with some excess.  Agriculture is in a slight decline because the Government has cut back on help with irrigation.  I believe what is needed to empower Indian agriculture is a little more help from the Government on getting irrigation to farmers.

I have a little bit of a problem putting all the blame for any problems on America or Britain.

  5. Education.

Capitalism helps people only if they are able to make informed choices. If not, it is just a sophisticated form of robbery.

A good example is the American "green revolution". Western interests tried to modernize Asian agriculture by introducing patented grain hybrids, along with the pesticides needed to grow them successfully. Traditional planting involved crop rotation; in this way insect populations were kept in check naturally, since they had no permenant supply of food. The new hybrids grew better, but a constant supply of pesticides were needed keep insects away. Of course, the insects began to develop a resistance to the pesticides. Also, rural farmers frequently could not afford these expensive foriegn chemicals. The situation became so bad that many farmers abandoned the new technology and went back to farming in a traditional manner.

The situation in India is particularly bad because American advertising convinces many rural farmers to try the new hybrids, which are even praised by popular film stars, who of course know nothing about farming. Never is it mentioned that pesticides will be needed to successfully grow crops, and since the grains are foriegn hybrids, Indian farmers are made dependant on American agricultural companies. The exploitation continues in the fact the hybrids are frequently derived by crossing native strains of Indian grain, "discovered" by the Americans and then patented. This prevents rural farmers from growing their own traditional crops, since they are now "owned" by the Americans. This is all very good for western  business, but Indian farmers suffer the consequences of failed harvests. This explains the high suciside rate amoungst rural farmers. Their last bottle of pesticide is used on themselves.

This is very reminiscent of the British preventing Indians from making their own salt. All salt was to be purchased from the British Salt company. Ghandi protested this by walking down to the sea and making salt in a traditional manner. This, and many other forms of nonviolent protest eventually freed India from imperial British domination.

Perhaps it is time for a green counter-revolution.

  6. we have to practice sustainable agriculture for improving Indian agriculture.Unused lands must be made rich & should be used for agriculture.overpopulation is a problem in India but it should be used wisely in this field too.
