you could get some light bulbs that waste less electricity, so your saving electricity

Absolutely nothing.    Nothing any man, society or country can do would reverse or even slow what is happening.

It's a natural cycle of mother earth and because our weather conditions have been almost perfect the past 10,000 years, we suddenly take notice.

We can take various steps to combat global warming & its related effects.

There are many steps that can be taken from personal sides & some steps that can be taken by the government in this regard.

The govt should make the environment related rules strict & try to make technical innovations in this regard.

Government can put a carbon tax on those industrial that tend to polluter more & produce more carbon than that can be emitted by using the latest technological innovation.

the govt can give impetus to technical innovations so that the new manufacturing process or the new ideas ensure that the carbon emission is always targeted.Govt can give tax breaks to such institutions.

the Govt should make people educated about the harmful effects of fossil fuels & encourage the use of renewable sources of energy & give tax breaks to such methods of energy harvesting.

The govt in each policy should make the environment & green house gas emission as a priority policy.

We as responsible citizens should follow a environmental friendly method in our day to day work & should take our carbon footprint into account & try to reduce it.

We should as far possible use the public transportation methods,plant more trees, use solar heaters,run A/C at a comfortable temperature,use incandescent light,conserver energy.

In this regard a mass movement is required from both govt & people sides so that our environment is saved from the fury its facing due to global warming.

Basically industries,transportation & fossil fuels are the main culprits fro this green hose scenario.

So we should take them into our target policy & try to conserve fossil fuels,save coal,oil & water &  try to innovate cleaner & greener ways fro manufacturing products.

The truth is that we cannot  stop global warming, but can minimise it.  Nowadays, we are emitting much greenhouse gases through automobiles, industries, explosives, burning waste, consuming electricity, etc.  If we cut down this, (but not possible) maximum emission will be reduced but the natural things like fire, volcano eruption, etc cannot be controlled.  So, up to my knowledge, global warming cannot be stopped, but can be controlled.

So, saving the planet is not in our hand. It is the natural thing.  In my schooling i studied that the earth was cold before and due to sunlight and some natural calamities, earth became warm and fit for living, so it is the natural thing that earth is warming day by day.

Let we do our best to control and not to emit greenhouse gases (through carbon offsetting programs) and then let to nature's hand...

Its seems difficult but thats the cure, people should learn to avoid lavish luxuries, these give only material pleasure at the expensive of our Earth, the provider, the nurturer.

I am not sure if government induced rules or awareness actually works out all the time. Its our individual effort that can make a huge difference. Remember, we should not  solely depend on authorities to act and  how to save our HOME   but ask ourselves how to make a difference here.

THINK. Everthing you do in life can make a difference.

Remember the butterfly effect.

Try to control desires for materialistic life and pleasure.

Taking a scientific approach, I researched several scientific databases. After reading the NASA data where they talk about how the surface temperature of all nine planets in the solar system is rising in direct relationship to their distance from the sun (except Jupiter which is also warming from it's own internal heat), and how they measured that - I don't worry about global warming anymore.

I can't change the heat output of the sun nor the solar cycles, nor can I change the surface temperatures of the other planets. These things are simply beyond my power to even influence.
