I have taken microbiology (the best bio class I have every taken) and I can tell you that if you do not understand the basic principles of biology that are taught in intro classes, then you will not do well. Everything, and I do mean everything, is needed in order to fully understand what is going on in microbiology. It is not just the cell section of biology that you focus on, but you also relate evolution to how the cell came to be, processing of genetic information , etc. You must understand basic bio in order to understand micro.
