How well do Vonage and Skype really work?

I want to know from people who have actually used them, not just based on what the website says.

I used skype to talk to my boyfriend while he was away in Italy for a semester. The sound quality is very good and it's free to make skype-to-skype calls. It's really great if you need it for a specific purpose like that but I wouldn't use it as your main phone. It costs about 10 cents a minute to call land lines with it and I never tried recieving calls with it. Good luck!

I have used Skype for over 3 years now.  It works better than ever now that they have upgraded to version 3.8.  I just recently started using Skype for video calls too.  All calls are free between Skype users.

Actually, you can call anywhere in USA/Canada, PC-to-landlines, for only 2.1 cent/min, or unlimited calling for $3/month.
