  1. Sean have you ever watched League?? It is far more skillful than union has & will ever be.

In rugby league only the super league teams in the UK are fully professional plus maybe a few teams in the National League 1.

Salaries are varied but clubs in the SL cannot have more than 20 players on £25,000 a year or more.

Some of the top players like Matt King at Warrington could be on £120,000 a year plus bonus

  2. The good players get paid well enough, but nothin ridicules like the soccer players get.

An Australian great League player once quoted: rugby union is a complex game played by wankers, rugby league is a simple game played by men. cuded agree more

  3. Rugby players get paid no way near as much as american football players do (which seems extremely unfair to me).

Rugby player get paid "right about 65,000 dollars for a season in new zealand and most of the southern hemisphere but get to be a lot more in the northern hemisphere with the likes o england."

$65000 is definitely not enough money to put all that wear and tear on your body; although it would seem like a dream to me to get any money for playing such a fun sport.

  4. keague player not much but if you on about union the club if its like wasps ospreys munster or tolouse you will get 50-100 thousand a year

  5. rugby league players do get paided well if your at the top and at your peak. but some get less than a plumber. when really they should get paided more and football players paid less as rugby league players are much more skilled and the game is more interessing.

  6. for a start, rugby league is a terible game, union is much better but to answer your question they son't get paid very well at all, a large number of rugby players have other jobs as well, about £40,000 per year is average for the best players.

  7. Rugby league teams are salary capped. They can only spend something like 60% of their income on players salaries, so the salaries aren't that great. They get a little bit more from bonuses. The top players can expect a bit more from sponsorship deals, but s the game is traditionally only played in Yorks and Lancs, it's not got full national media coverage/interest. The best players in the UK can probably expect to earn no more than £200k in a season.  Credit to Sky for sticking with them and showing two live games every week. It's a cracking game, not as stop/start as rugby union, nearly always end to end and always tried scored. There are hardly ever any dull rugby league games compared with union and football (soccer). I remember being at Twickenham when Bath beat Leicester or Wasps 10-9 I think, maybe the other way round, can't remember, I was asleep!

I regularly take people up North now to watch my boys play (Wigan) from London, and the people I have taken up, absolutely love the game and a lot of them are now glued to the tele on Friday/Saturday when the superleague comes on. Whenever we come down to London, I've usually got between 8 and 20 ticket requests for the games.

The game of rugby league is a game for the working classes, like football used to be until they priced it out of the market for most ordinary folk.
