How well do the people in Peru speak English?

Question

Especially in Lima.

I need to know this for a report, but I don't exactly know where to find it.

Also, are there any schools in Lima. If so what are they like?

Lima is a big city and 1/6 of it in the middle is where the richer people live & work. In those districts you'll find private schools that cost around $275-$600 dolars per month. In all private schools they teach English, unless the schools is from other european or asian country in wich case the teach their mother language and then English.

In the case of English teaching schools, they theach you everithing in English , you have the following: Franklin Delano Roosevelt (USA), Markham College (UK). These are the most expensive schools $610/month and $530/month respectivately

Peruano Britanico, Newton, Hiram Bingham and Trener are peruvian schools with many courses in English so students know fluently the language and they are not so expensive $300-$400 per month.

To teach English is a must among private schools, and all of the high class and upper middle class people will know english in the future. the problem is that public schools are very bad in teaching and worst of all in teaching a foreing language. For that reason poorer people that want to work in the tourism environtment must go to language teaching centers after they finish school, so they don't get to speak as fluently as any person who started to learn as a child.

That's cool that you're gonna go there when your 15. I'm 15 right now and i moved back to Peru last year when i was 14. I didn't really remember a lot of Peru because i moved to Massachusetts when i was 5. I had no idea what to expect and it was difficult for me bcuz i didn't want to leave my friends and family in the states. But my dad is a chemical engineer and he got a job offer in Peru so we had move back. I've been living here in Lima for a almost a year now and i really love it. You wanted to know a little about schools here in Peru right? Well I actually start school on Monday, i got out of school December 14th cuz summer here is in December. The seasons in Lima are the opposite from the seasons in the states. Anyway my school is great! I mean i really love it! Everyone is really friendly and they were really nice to me when i first came here... it's hard being the new girl but everyone made me feel at home. The teachers are awsome, they really helped me out a lot. And i've made tons of friends! We also have uniforms, us girls wear a navy blue skirt, a white blouse, a red tie, navy blue socks, and dress shoes, We also have a school sweater and gym clothes. But uniforms vary based on the school. So each school had a different uniform. Something that's different from school's in the states in that we only have up to 11th grade here. But in my school they don't call it 11th grade, we just say 5th year of high school. Also schools here aren't divided in different buildings like they are in the states (Primary school, Middle school, High school) They are all just in one big school. Well at least most of them are. But there's probably some schools that aren't idk. My school only has one classroom per grade. So there's only one 8th grade class, 9th grade, 10 grade, etc. But other schools have more classrooms per grade. Anyway i think schools here are really cool, i mean they have a good education system that really prepares you for the university, and they're just really fun! And yeah you're gonna find people who speak English here. There's tons of american kids at my school. And there's many tourists in Lima. As for everyone else... yeah most people will know at least a little bit of English because they teach it in school. But there's private and public schools. My school is private so they do a really good job in teaching English to people that don't already speak English. So basically everyone at my school can speak English or are at least learning. But in public schools the English teaching level is not that high. So i recommend private schools, they're better. There's actually some schools that only speak English. Like:

And this school is a school only for kids whose parents don't have the peruvian citizenship. So there's gonna be american kids there and kids from all over the world, who will probably will speak English.

Lima is a huge modern city.  Many people speak English, tho certainly not the majority of people.  Of course there are schools in Lima.  education, and improving the standards in public schools is a priority of the current president.  School is mandatory through the 9th grade.

Memorex is correct though I should add. Only about 5 schools teach everything (from biology and maths to music and sports) in English: Roosevelt, Markham, San Silvestre, Newton, Villa María, Santa María). The other schools just have a 5-10 hours a week course and the level a pupil can get is not that good.

There are lots of institutes that have a 3 year method (12 one-month-long courses at Basic, Middle and Advanced levels) but I've seen people from the last courses of the Advanced level and some sound really bad!

depends.... rich people speaks very well english( because they have great schools), poor people not....Around the tourist areas they speak english.... and yes there are schools... private and public schools..... public schools sucks because the goverment dont help in anything....
