With the new Queensland team entering the AFL, I'm interested to see how well the team will develop.

I wonder if this Queensland team will be like the Brisbane Bears when they struggled to get their team off the ground.

The fan base is also an interesting point because how many dedicated fans will be willing to give up their beloved team to support Queensland.

I'm also interested in how the untouchables will work out and who will be in each teams top 10 'untouchables'.

  1. I strongly recommend they scrap the queensland side and put a side in from TASMANIA they have had a lot of good players come out of there over the years and the support would be ok, you wouldnt get the 50,000 to 80,000 each week because they havent got a ground big enough but you would get dedication from the Tassie community GO TASSIE

  2. i don't like the idea of either team... they're both in rugby league dominated areas,  they'll basically be the early 90's swans and bears in terms of no fans until they start winning... so does that mean they'll recieve lots of help from the afl to make sure they win?

also, i can remember 2 gold coast based rugby league teams folding... and its supposed to be the popular sport up there... so AFL doesn't stand a chance

  3. I think that the team itself will be successful, when it comes to their playing list and ability on field, but I still am not sure how they plan to gain supporters? Brisbane have one of the lowest membership figures in the AFL, so I just can't see how another team is going to survive up there, and have an adequate fan base. I know the AFL will help them out, but how are they going to stay afloat in a few years time?

I really do not want to see this new team 'poaching' valuable players from other clubs, and I am not happy about the draft concessions they are going to receive. I know it's the only way to establish a team at AFL level, but I just think it is unfair to other clubs.

  4. I wonder if Brisbane will be upset if the new QLD team gets a 10% salary cap advantage and extra draft picks no matter how well the team is doing?

  5. I don't think the new AFL team will do too well as a lot of the Melbourne teams are struggling fan and finacially.

  6. It should be located in Tasmania

  7. they will develop fine as they have plenty of support from andy...

i know a couple of people who r considering switching from teams such as port/roos 2 the gold coast..

the roos guy wanted them 2 move up here (i live in brissy) and he wanted 2 go 2 more games and have a season ticket 2 his team's games but didnt want 2 get a lions 1.

port supporter is just sick of port coach and wants 2 go 2 more games also...

as a lions supporter however, i would think of gc as rivals and i think qld will split in half... if the gc team work/play well, it will end up as brisbane v cowboys in NRL... massive rivalry...

as for supporters.. on the gc17 website they have gotten people 2 register their interest, and have gained quite a few so far i think...

but i think that will decrease dramatically when they start askin 4 money...

  8. it will work, the AFL will  make sure of it, it may cost them millions of dollars to do it but it will not fold like the NRL teams they place nilly willy around the country, it is a long term project, just like the swans and the bears/lions they both struggled big time early but look at them now, if only Melbourne got behind the storm the same way Sydney and Brisbane have rallied to the Swans and Lions

  9. Hey, we can all see the hopelessness of Gold Coast, why can't the Greek boy? Egg all over his face. Why should quality clubs be called on to sacrifice their efforts to survive for the sake of magnificent AFL egos. Leave the game alone. A world game? What c**p. There's room for all sport in this country without trying to cripple other codes.

  10. Andy's wearing blinkers. Must come from playing for North?

The GC will go ahead whatever.

If enough groundswell wants a Tassie team, the Hawks or maybe the Tiges will be drafted to Aurora.

Ten untouchables? I reckon my poor ol' bombers would be hard pressed to name ten players fit enough to play, at present! They chose from a list of 25 last week(v Collingwood)and I've never heard of the primary school kid rookies who were in reserve.

But I think Matty Knights will want to keep Lloyd, Lucas, Stanton, Monfries,Reimers, Fletcher, Hille, Ryder, Lovett Murray and Davey no matter what.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++...

  11. I think they will struggle getting supporters

  12. i personally think its a dead team already its got no record and people up there arent gennw wanna go for them

  13. I went to the same High school as the Greek boy, and I think I learned  enough to know that his old team NTH MELBOURNE "should have" been re located to the Gold Coast, no questions asked.   Surely the Gold Coast is far more affluent than the back streets of NTH MELBOURNE, its just so dumb.  The other thing I "fail" to understand,  if not NORTH, WHY not SOUTHPORT,  who I understand are currently the RICHEST Aussie rules club in the country, already on the Gold Coast, with a massive 40,000 membership, and with currently, an extremely successful social club, that could buy and sell Nth Melbourne's, several times over.  The whole deal honestly makes no sense to me!

PS: just remembered Southport wear white with a black V, Eddie must have objected to them.
