Question:

How well does Nintendo keep on top of hackers during online play? Especially in MK Wii?

I always suspected that some of the times I see in tournament play were straight up impossible. Just recently I was playing online and ran across a guy that had "star power" (invincibility) the entire race. He would wait at the bridge on DK's Jungle Parkway and kill everyone that tried to cross.

If this can be done here, I'm sure it can be done in tournaments...... Anyone read about what Nintendo can do about this?

  1. Ocarina (the program that allows you to hack games) is fairly recent.  If you're referring to the tournament times from a while back, they were all legit.

I remember that one tournament when you had to knock the 3 spinners off of the stage, I got 17 seconds on it, while in the rankings, it said that most people took at least a minute.

Anyway, since Ocarina IS out now, yes, people will continue to hack, and as for Nintendo doing something about hacking in tournaments, the problem is that how can you tell if someone hacked to get that score (unless it's obvious if they got 1 second or something) since it IS possible to get a really low time.

  2. in pokemon they have it under control, I think in mario kart wii though the values for stats and stuff dont change. Maybe the chance for items and stuff is calculated on the system rather than their server and they have no control over it. I think that they should have some kind of fool proof mechanism that will check the items they are getting and compare it to the actual likely hood of getting that item.

Is where he is standing an item block? if it is then he can just change the values for each item without the likely hood of getting it involved and nintendo's server doesnt even know it maybe. If nintendo can do anything it will have to actually look at where he is getting those items from or something, like is he putting the values himself or is the computer deciding it.

  3. Ive seen a lot of hackers.

Ive had the same experience with a hacker on GBA Bowser's Castle where the hacker will constantly get stars and Mega Mushrooms even though he was in 1st place. Then he would kill all the 8000+ ranks

I've also heard about people getting unlimted blue shells.

All games have their hackers i guess. What can you do?

  4. They remove their scores and ban them from wifi
