I sometimes fish this small lake near my house. But as spring has turned to summer, it has become overgrown with lily pads, and weeds. I need a weedless apoach to catching the largemout in the lake!

  1. The secret is to fish weedless with a senko type lure or a frog- both are dynamite lily pad and grass baits- throw any where there is a small opening in them or just throw on top of them and slowly jiggle it off and let it sink with an occasional twitch of your rod tip- you'll have a blast!

  2. It will work great. Grab a few senkos and since ur going in lily pads dont let the hook shine through the top. Thats pretty much it and good luck!

  3. dont use any weight at all ...you could probalby use a buzzbait or some topwater like that.at least i caught close to 10 fish in 2 hours that way.almost every time i go.

  4. I would suggest going "weightless", that is, with no weights. You could also try a weedless frog. After casting, try a few quick jerks and then WAIT. Let the bait sit on top of the pads and then let it fall gently off the edge of the pads, repeat. The key is to go slowly and make it look as if the bait is cautiously "crawling" across the top of the pads. This is a fun way to fish, especially in the evening! I get a heart attack every time one of those monsters erupts from underneath to swallow that "frog" on top. Good luck!!

  5. The Texas Rig worm is best reserved for bottom dragging, so for a real blast, and my favorite topwater/ lily pad lure, order yourself some "Secret Lures" clear leg "Chubby", frogs & some Mr. Blitz Peli-lock toad toater hooks in 5/0 1/8th ounce weighted, and toss it anywhere in that mess of pads.

I swear, when you get the hook in the frog, into that groove...it is the ultimate weedless frog...just AWESOME! I have caught some beauties just tossing it, twitching it across pads, let it slowly fall off of one, and when the bass hits it...SET THE HOOK! Just AWESOME!
