Question:

How well does motorcycle gear work?

I was wondering how well motorcycle gear works. Not the helmet, but the body suit with all the pads and guards and stuff. Looking to hear from people who have gotten into wrecks wearing full gear and what injuries they received. Any info. would be great.

  1. they help a Little bit. the helmet works the best thought

  2. I don't wear all that stuff but I also don't ride 100 Pulse but it is like a suite of armor the pro-riders wear it.

  3. Dedicated motorcycle gear works extremely well. Nothing works as well as leather, but the textiles that are designed for riding work very very well too. If it isn't designed for riding, it will probably wear through in the first few feet of sliding and you will loose alot of skin, possibly all the way to bone. If you have been riding without gear up to now, consider yourself very lukcy that you have not fallen. Get your skin covered, and wear it all the time.

  4. It works a lot better than bare skin.

Never gone down at speed on the street (I dual-sport, so I've fallen plenty of times off-road), but I wear gear ALL the time.

  5. It works well for preventing scrapes and bruises -- nuisance injuries.   It won't do much of anything about fractures, organ rupture -- the things that can kill or disable you.  The only thing that can really save your life and prevent disabling injuries is a helmet, so ALWAYS wear one that's certified to some standard.    Look for research by a German scientist named Dietmar Otte.  He's done a lot of work on the effectiveness of protective clothing.

  6. never watch a bike race and see them fall off an dthen get up and walk away..... well with it you still have skin without you will be missing a big part

  7. riding gear does it's job very well at keeping you from losing your skin , leather is the best for protection but the newer textile jackets and gear hold up just as good in the event you go down I high sided about a year ago in a sharp right hand turn I over braked and the back end slid out and grapped I had a few cuts from where the bike slammed down on top of me and the cylinder barrel rib's cut through my blue jeans and a fractured ankle from the bike landing on me ,didn't get a single scratch on my arms, back or any wear else due to the fact I had my jacket on, it's a textile Joe Rocket with armor and pads to this day you couldn't tell I went down wearing this jacket at about 40 mph not a scratch or rip in it

  8. May 16th this Year I high sided on a 90*, 20 mph Left hander. I was probably going 30 mph or so when the back tire lost traction due to road debris sending Me tumbling across the pavement into someones yard. I was wearing a HJC CL-Max helmet, Joe Rocket armored textile jacket and River Road armored mest pants and boots. I suffered a Broken Left wrist due to putting all of My 210 pounds on My Left Hand at some point. The Helmet hit the pavement along with the pants and Jacket but I have No other injuries. Yeah, the stuff works!

  9. The leathers work great, I've never crashed in the mesh or cordura stuff so no opinions there. Last year lowsided at about 80mph I got my arm caught underneath me and wore a quarter sized hole in the leathers on my forearm, ended up with that quarter sized friction burn on my arm. If I wasn't laying on my arm I would've come out without any scuff. Fallen off 2 other times in full leathers and didn't get a mark. I have jammed my wrist and hurt my ribs a bit from the impact, the leathers can't help there. I've also crashed once in jeans and a sweat shirt back in the day, tore all sorts of skin off. Jeans will last all of a split second when you hit the ground. My friend crashed 3 weeks ago in full leathers, again all his flesh was intact, but he did crack his shoulder from the impact with the ground, he is in his 50s however.

  10. I NEVER leave my yard without being fully covered.

Been riding for over 40 years, and they have tried to kill me several times, aint got me today. So they can try agian tomorrow.

    Not IF but WHEN
