I recently acquired 2 trojan viruses, a couple of worms and key logger stawin. Now I read that system restore might clean up these problems. So i ran the restore and was just wondering how effective this really is. Should I still be worried about these threats and if so what precautions should I take?

  1. Sorry but I don't think windows restore get rid of viruses. But just go on line and download a anti virus program and run a full scan if your looking for free anti virus programs try free.avg.com or try Avast.com

  2. Many viruses and other malware now put a copy of themselves in system restore, it really isn't an effective option anymore. Get an antivirus and remove them.

If you are looking for one I would suggest:

    AVIRA- http://www.download.com/Avira-AntiVir-Pe...

    and

    SuperAntispyware Free- http://www.superantispyware.com/

Also the only way to remove viruses from system restore is to disable it, do this after you have confirmed your system is clean, to do this:

    1. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.

    2. In the System Properties dialog box, click the System Restore tab.

    3. Click to select the Turn off System Restore check box. Or, click to select the Turn off System Restore on all drives check box.

    4. Click OK.

    5. After you have finished turn System restore back on by un-checking the Turn off System Restore check box.

  3. System restore will not get rid of any malware on your computer it just resets you computer's OS to the date you selected. Goto links below and download and install if you don't have any antivirus or anti spyware installed. Start your computer in safe mode and scan with both anti.

  4. In my experience, you never know exactly when the virii first arrived, so a restore just isn't enough. Buy a good anti-virus (I like Kaspersky) and let it do it's job. You will be surprised at the things it finds.
