How well does technical anaylsis like ocillators work in making buy or sell orders?

Is technical analysis just hype or does it actually work because I want to start making more short term trades and get involved more in trading rather than just investing.

I think it is a lot harder than it sounds.  I have found the best way to make money in the market, it to read all the news, follow your favorite stocks and sectors, and buy when a stock "looks" cheap.  Here are my favorite stocks right now.  I love the wind energy stocks:

Technical Analysis do not give you a sell and a buy signals but they are there to show where is the market moving then you will make your decision based on what you see

I will disagree with you simply because the fact that you personally don't understand it is your basis for claiming it's not real.

Anyway, to answer the question... the usefulness of oscillators largely depends on what you're trading; the logical thing to do is set up some backtests on whatever it is you're trading and see if there's any mileage in it for you then work your way from there.

People will disagree with me, but technical analysis is 90% voodoo. Even the way they use the moving average (the basic tool) is flawed.

Technical Anaylasis should be viewed as a tool to increase your odds of successful trades in terms of entries and exits, resistance and support, and setting stop loss orders. They alone are not a panacea to success. They suggest the appetite/demand for a stock at a given moment relative to past performance. So the answer is yes
