How well-known is vancouver?

Vancouver is considered a major city in the world, but not a world city.  Toronto is considered higher; and Vancouver is not in the realm of London, Paris, NY, or Tokyo.

I would say Vancouver is known to anyone in North America, and the Pacific Rim.

When I went abroad and people asked where I was from, when I said Canada they'd either ask me if I was from Toronto or Vancouver.  That's it.  Or they'd say "I took a lovely vacation out to Vancouver.  It was lovely.  So beautiful."  Nobody had visited the T-dot.  But lots had vacationed in BC.

I wouldn't say it's on par with Paris where you automatically have a vision of what it looks like, and have a formulated notion of exactly what it is.  Where you could easily pipoint it on a map and immediately identify it by a single photograph.  But I'd say it's fairly well know - people seem to know it's general location.  They have a general idea.

I told them Vancouver.  Because it's close enough.  That's the facebook network I'd have to join (whoot for the network-less Islanders).

Ooor the just know about it because they really like BC Bud.

Agreed, not some place that immediately reminds you of centuries of history, but it's a name that comes up the more you hear it.

Like with all the shows that get filmed there...

I'd say pretty well known, although probably not AS well known as Paris or London or NYC, but still it's pretty much a known name

Alot of people will recognize it as a large city in Canada.

Vancouver is very well known due to it's natural beauty and International exposure during EXPO 1986.  Vancouver is also the gateway to the Orient for many people visiting Canada and in particular the West Coast.  It is a city of many cultures with their own communities and its Chinatown rivals that of San Francisco.  It is also the second largest sea port on the west coast of North America.

Its pretty well known. It's the #1 place to live over the whole world (Proven, type it up) So i think most of the world knows about it.
