I plan to "Strip down" a few alternators for a science project i am working on and i would like to know what i can do without?

I plan on using two very similar units and i need them to be as lightweight as possible. If you have any tips for me, please answer.

  1. i dont think there is anything on an alternator thats not needed

  2. if you can find any weight that's not needed, removing it won't affect performance, because you won't be removing anything that it needed.

  3. HI

Most of the casing could be removed is about all I can think of. BUT you would need to leave enough of the casing to be able to attache it and give it enough strength to be able to tighten the belt.

    good luck
