  1. Texas is a native American word.  I have forgotten what it means.  I'm sure Wikipedia would have it.

California was a name of an island deriving from a SPanish book.  It was the island where Amazons live.   The SPanish though California was an Island.

  2. I dunno about California, but I do know where Texas got its name.

A group of native americans used to call each other "teshas" meaning "friend." When the Spanish came, they changed it and named the area "Tejas" (tehas). Later, the anglo-americans came (Americans who moved to Texas, which was Mexican territory by then), and soon changed it to "Texas."

  3. The name Texas is a Spanish name, which comes from an Indian word meaning "friends" or "allies."
