  1. Bullet Proof vests were intially called Ballistic Armour in Australia during 1879. When Ned Kelly's "Kelly Gang" made armour from scrap metals which covered their torsos, upper arms, upper legs. Along with the helmet, the home-made suit weighed 44kg (96lbs), which made Kelly clumsy and unwieldy when he wore the armour during a police raid at Glenrowan in 1880....and etc...   2. They weren't discovered -- they were invented.  Dupont's Kevlar brand developed the first ones in 1965
