How were the components of the earth discovered?

I am no scientist, or geologist....

How was it discovered that the earth was made up of core, mantle, crust (and etc, if there is more :-)

I mean, it is a h**l of a long way to dig, so I am assuming that wasn't they way :-)

yea sounds like h**l but seismology is the way to find out the earth's interior.

using advanced devices scientists can 'see' the earth's interior by observing the changes and modulations and patterns and speed of waves traveling tru different types of earth and soil

thus ,now, we know whats inside the earth!!
