  1. I'm not an anthropologist, but, why do some homo sapiens look like Neanderthals?

  2. THE FORAMEN MAGNUM WHICH IS THE PLACE WHERE THE SPINE ATTACHES TO THE SKULL WAS LOCATED FARTHER BACK THAT THAT OF HOMO SAPIENS THE FORE HEAD WAS RECESSED IN COMPARISON TO HOME SAPIENS AND THE BROW RIDGE MORE PRONOUNCED. THE JAW MUSCLES WERE STRONGER AND MORE PRONOUNCED. THE CHINS WERE MORE PRONOUNCED IN HOMO N.

  3. Always remember the pronounced occiptal bun that Neanderthals had.  It's a key answer.  They were more robust while modern humans are gracile.

  4. They had larger chins and no foreheads. Their brain cavity was also smaller. The brain cavity being the space inside the skull where the brain rests and not the size of the head.

  5. The neanderthal skull could hold up to 1500 cc of brain matter, has a protruding brow ridge and was more elongated from nasal cavity to the mandible. The face protruded more that modern human.  Human brain capacity can run up to 1350cc.  So the Neanderthal brain was larger.

  6. If by chin, you simply been the inferior-anterior mandible, it is receding in the Neanderthal.  Technically, the chin is the mental eminence, a bony protrusion on that spot of the mandible.  Humans have it; Neanderthal don't.

  7. I'm not entirely sure about the chins, and I don't suppose that many Neanderthal jawbones have even been found.  All I can tell you about the skull is that it was flatter and broader with a larger brain cavity.

  8. Human chins are quite large and larger than Neanderthals but that is about the only skull feature that is true of.  Neanderthals had what would be called a weak chin but it certainly wasn't weak, just not sticking out as much as modern human.  They have very large brow ridges, an occipital bun on the back of the skull which is apparently used to balance the skull.  They were much tougher than a modern human.
