  1. Philippe IV le Bel was more instrumental in developping the power of monarchy, but with the 100 years war, the circumstances reinforce the power of the dukes and feudality. With the war finally over and the Brits too busy, they had the opportunity to fight back the big vassals like Charles le Téméraire in Burgundy and get back to their ancestor politics, asking for help in the elite of the Tiers Etat to gain an ally against their internal enemies.
