How were you (American) treated in Germany?

I plan to travel to Germany once I stop being lazy and finish learning the language to a degree of fluency, and have heard it both ways. "Oh Germans HATE Americans, and Germans LOVE Americans" and I just have no idea what to think. I was hoping someone had been there and could tell me?

  1. It has been many years since I was there, but I have very fond memories of Germany.  I spent part of a summer after high school in Europe, and our final days were in Berlin--and long before the wall came down.  We sat in the outdoor cafes, drank Berlinerweiss with the locals, even found a jazz club that let us jam with them (we were touring with a concert band).

I don't know how much more or less America was loved then as now, but I remember being pretty sad to leave.

  2. I used to say I'm Russian (which is true in part), but I wouldn't admit I was from the states. I saw a few American tourists frouned upon in Germany. I guess if you go to large cities, people wouldn't be as nasty, but I suggest you don't advertise it unless asked.

  3. Hey! iam german. All the germans i know dont have any attitudes against americans. i think you will have a great time in germany. u just have to be nice to us germans and we will be nice to u. i hope ull have a great time
