Would there be someone to help if I need it?

Portland, Or to Sacremento......it's like a 16 hour trip, I can't sit in my chair for that long.

  1. The train consists of double-decker Superliner equipment.  You'll be able to roll yor wheelchair onto the lower level of the train where there are coach seats.  You won't be able to move from car to car, however, as the connection between the cars is on the upper level, and there's only a narrow staircase leading from the lower level to the upper level.

Amtrak attendants will, at your request, bring food for you from the dining car.

The bottom line is that Amtrak tries very hard to be handicapped-accessible, but there are limitations.

  2. yes, this train equipment and both portland and sacramento stations are wchr accessible.  there are a lot of details i could write, but amtrak can tell you too.

call 1.800.USA.RAIL (1.800.872.7245) or go to the portland train station, or check out their web site at www.amtrak.com.
