  1. Picture ID's are issued in the same location as drivers licenses.  I don't know if they will do this for a child so young, but I don't see why not.  What the heck do you need it for?  People don't usually get a picture ID until they are 13-15.

  2. Call the airline, and the airport, you will be using, and ask them what you will need to fly with your aunt's baby. With Southwest, they say to bring a copy of the babies birth certificate, but they don't always ask for it. They only need it for the boarding pass though, since I'm guessing you will be carrying the baby on your lap.

Most likely, you might just need a note that gives you permission to be flying with her, possibly notarized. I think that child services get antsy when people, other than parents, are traveling with babies out of state. Just to be sure, make sure you get a note for medical care too, just in case the little one gets a cold, or gets hurt somehow, otherwise they can't treat them until they get a hold of the parents.

My suggestion is just to call around. Definitely call the airline and the airport, and I would talk to your local hospital to see what you might need in case you have to take the baby in. I don't know who you would talk to about taking the baby out of state, though. Maybe talk to the local Child Services place, since I'm sure they have to deal with issues pertaining to kids being taken out of state without permission, and you can find out what the correct protocol would be to avoid any problems.

  3. You do NOT need passports to travel within the U.S.  Passports are only for international travel.  Infants do not need any type of I.D. to travel within the U.S. with their family.  Only people 18 and over are required to have a photo I.D.  See site below.  You can confirm this by calling your i.D. if you are still concerned ( if you can get a human on the phone.)  But, I assure you , the infant dos not need any form of I.D.

  4. dont need a pic id for an infant unless ur traveling out of the country.  hold the kid down and just take a pic with a digital camera - thats how i did it for my babies - and they were smiling too!!
