How/why can fast discs damage slower drives?

HiWeve all seen the warnings on the faster discs that they may cause damage to older slower drives.Can anyone explain the reasons why this is so or point me to any web pages with tech info?Does anyone know if I can use 8x DVD-R in my Pioneer A06?ThanksIan
