How wide is the interior of a taxi?

Question

I need to commute to NYC and the only way for me as of now is by taxi. I also need to bring an instrument which is aprox 5'6" long and 14" wide. Would it fit in a taxi?

sometimes you can request a bigger taxi, (or a van)

a lot of taxis now accessible vans but it doesn't mean you

have to be in wheelchair to use them
