I want to join the Army for 3 years as a Military Policeman. I want to have a career as a Civilian Police Officer when I get out, but how will my experience look towards that?

  1. If you have basically the same education, psych, written and oral board scores as someone else, you'll have a leg up on them.

  2. Very good, most police departments have many former military professionals working for them. The best thing to do along with the military experience is to take some courses in crimnial justice. It will look good on your resume. You can take credit courses online. You can also take non-credit courses online for free from many good schools. It will not give you a certificate but you can still put it down in the training section of your resume.

    Good luck!

  3. Any military experience is looked on favorably. In addition, federal law allows employers to add veterans preference points to your total score, so you will have an advantage over others without military experience.

  4. better than someone who spent that three years as a waiter in a diner, not as good as someone who spent that same time as a cop in a smaller town.  Civilian cops recognize that the job of an MP is pretty much unrelated to the job of a cop.  For instance, regular cops hardly ever stand gate-guard duty and MPs hardly ever deal with gang-bangers.

  5. very good, dept always want someone with some sort of experience and MP is a great start
