  1. eventually the stocks themselves will become coal

  2. The future looks very black.

  3. They should do well. Coal supplies from Australia are down, making for a tight international market. The coal companies with international reach are doing great. Not only can you invest in solid coal companies like Peabody and Arch Coal, there is a coal ETF that is doing exceptionally well. The ticker symbol is KOL. It gives you all the "best" coal companies out there.

Coal is often used in electric generation-- even though Nancy Pelosi doesn't approve of coal, the rest of the world does. The technologies for clean coal and coal liquification will only improve in the years to come. The US has a great deal of coal ( I think it is around 30% of the world's reserves), and this could help us end our energy dependence on foreign oil. We should all be writing to our political leaders about developing our coal options. Those dummies backed ethanol made from corn and soy--now the cost of those foods have run up, and ethanol plants are closing. Some that were to be built have been cancelled. These problems wouldn't have existed if the emphasis was on coal. That's my opinion!
