How will England retain it's place on the world stage when Scotland declares it's independance?

When the Scots finally break away from the British Empire, will England still be Britain or will it just be a tiny wee country half heartedly supported by the Welsh and Northern Irish in it's aspiration to be a World power with a special relationship to the USA?

  1. Scotland will certainly become independent of the UK but it will have to form alliances with other countries and most probably join the EU when it will immediately lose its independence.

  2. I don't know and will freely admit my ignorance... I want to know though.  I do think England is more America's ***** than the 'uk' or Scotland would be if we became fully devolved.

  3. When Scotland obtains it's complete independence!Which in my opinion cannot come soon enough!Responsible for it's own pensions, benefits, law and defence!England will be a lot better off financially as it will not have to pour billions of pounds into propping up Scotland!

Most English people want Scotland to have independence as soon as possible as they feel it has been a drain and burden on their shoulders for generations!

The question is also! How would the USA vote for California to have it's independence from a bankrupt country?

  4. You say tiny, but Scotland is even smaller than England. Good luck.

  5. Make no mistake GB as a whole is a rich country but England subsidises the rest and would be financialy better off.I can only assume you think the depleating north sea oil would be owned by Scotland and last for ever.United we have more respect worldwide than devided and the only people against this are usally looking out for themselves. Its as stupid as yorkshire or agelsey becoming independant.

  6. According to the London based media England is already Britain.  If you watch that news they always talk about Britain, and at first you think they are talking about the island as a whole, but then they might tag on as an afterthought "but in Scotland"...

IMHO Wales & Northern Ireland (especially Wales) will take the lead from us and take their independence (if Scotland vote to go down that route).

  7. it will fade into history

  8. England? F**k 'em!

Although I currently live in England (spit), nothing is worn under the kilt, if you get my drift!

  9. I think no matter what it will remain a great country which made our world's history and culture exactly what it is now.

  10. The only regret I have about the UK is that Sir William Wallace did not stomp the life out of Longshanks ! What of UK have the potatos piled up in harbor causing the Irish great potato faminie?. God d**n blue-bloods and their manical attitude toward the rest of humanity.

  11. Great Britain became great because of the contributions from all its nationals.  There have been great politicians from Northern Ireland and Wales, great innovators in Scotland as well as England.  We have athletes from all over (what was the Empire) who reside in the UK and make a valuable contribution to our society.

A bunch of twigs is strong and cannot be broken - remove one twig and it can be broken.

  12. Materially it would be better off.

But there are many reasons for tolerant staying and sharing together.

Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel (Wilde)

  13. Do we really need the anti-English rantings in this day and age. Can we not be grown up about things and behave like rational adults. Forget the old feuds, they achieved nothing but sorrow for Scotland so there is no point in keeping the old pot boiling. Look to the future  of how the countries that make up Britain can work together for the benefit of all. Each country has its own identity, no-one can deny that. We are all proud of our roots and rightly so. We all may need each other again in the future so its best to at least stay in friendly terms. Our countries can be independant but be able to unite quickly if need be.

  14. I support Scottish independence, but the rest of the world could care less. In the U.S., for example, "Britain" and "England" are used interchangeably. Besides, the euro will inevitably replace the pound, making the UK's raison d'etre obsolete. Let England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland celebrate their diversity.

  15. England, will do, what it always has done. it will swagger on the world stage, acting like it was a world policeman, and do it at the taxpayers expense...

At least it will not be able to pass the butchers bill, on to Scotland's young men any more, while stealing their youth, and all the glory, in it's own name, or just maybe, it will face the fact, that we have less influence, in this world, than Holland Belgium, or even Italy, France Germany, Brazil, Argentina, the Phillipines, India , Pakistan, Iraq, Iran, Israel, Turkmenistan, Syria, the Lebanon, the Netherland antilles, the Bahamas, Arnie Schwartzennegger, Doris Day, Rock Hudson, and a host of other nation states, we may finally concentrate on the English people, at last, and not the vanity of our strutting politicians.......
