Question:

How will Global Warming relate to a new Ice Age?

There is talk of a global warming due to the build-up of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. There is also the theory that a new ice age is due every 150,000 years and we are now 15,000 years overdue for it. What are your thoughts? Will we drown or freeze?

  1. i think the bag tax will take care of any chance at global warming, dont you?

  2. Look at history; global warming/ice ages have been happening since the dawn of time but the difference this time is, the politicians have found a perfect reason to add another tax.     It's called  'Emissions Trading Schemes' .    You'll sink and the politicians wil have the lifeboats; you'll freeze and the political will have the heaters.

  3. golbal warming will heat the ice caps and the sea levls will rise drastically  then  the water will freeze

  4. generally, the ice age cycle lasts 100,000, not 150,000 years.

we have been in this interglacial a bit longer than normal, but we don't see an immediate end due to natural causes in the near future.

there is a scenario in which global warming could trigger a new ice age.

that is, if sufficient greenland ice melts to lower the salt content of the atlantic that the water becomes lighter, and the gulf stream doesn't sink, then the distribution of heat will get messed up, which could cause a problem for northern continents.

however, the melting of arctic ice argues for significantly increased heating -- that's not a part of the gulf stream system.

it would appear that the CO2 we've added to the atmosphere has sufficiently changed the environment that we can no longer depend on past cycles to provide us with a guide as to what to expect the climate to do in the future.

  5. Ignore it and it will go away.

  6. No matter what happens, it's bad and it's Bush's fault, Big Oil's fault, and America's fault.

  7. Watch "The Day After Tomorrow." It is a stretch of course but it kinda explains how global warming (if it were real, which its not) could end up causing an ice age. It's all about the north atlantic current.

  8. I think we will drown....you know the melting of glaciers ,rising of the sea level..etc.

  9. Global warming will lead us to an ice age.  Its just the way the earth works.

  10. Theoretically speaking, freshwater water from melting glaciers could cause a dillution of the salinity levels in the North Atlantic, this could cause the gulf stream to fail completly or slow down and not distribute enough heat to Northern Europe and North America.

  11. Captain Jimbo you have your numbers wrong. Glaciations last about 150,000 years and interglacial periods in the past lasted about 15,000 years. They estimated to the best of their ability that the last glaciation period ended around 12,000 to 14,000 years ago, some even think it was about 10,000 years ago. So in actuality it's the belief that temperatures should be starting to trend downward to the next glaciation that we are overdue for.

  12. The GW is a scam by the Left . They are afraid that U will use up all the oil and Gore would not be able to fly around and propigate his movie lie...

  13. I guess we'll catch a break and the two will cancel each other out.

  14. The "new ice age" is a hoax put forward by denialist.  Anthropogenic Global Warming is real.  The "New Ice Age" doesn't exist.

Here is a link that summarizes AGW by the US national Academy of Sciences.  Is there such a link for the "New Ice Age?"
