Question:

How will I know how big my baby will be?

I asked my doctor, and she said there was really no way of knowing until the baby is born. She says they give 3rd trimester ultrasound only if they feel the baby is measuring to big or too small. I just started to gain weight and I am 7 months. I put on 5 pounds so far, I just think that it is strange with all the technology we have today, more effort is not put into finding out the baby's size. A co-worker at work says her baby was so big, it got stuck in her pelvis, and they had to give her an episiotomy, that consequently tore her r****m. Her doctor then admitted she probably should have had a c-section. I am scared out of my mind-what if I have a 10 lb baby. Will they expect me to squeeze that out vaginally I have heard of baby's getting stuck in the canal and needing an emergency c-section. How common is this?

  1. my son is 3months my doctor told me he was going to be around 8 to 9 lbs He was a week late My son was 10lbs when he was born i want though 20 hours of  labor and i was only dilated to 7 after all of that well come to fine out the he was in the birth canal i had to have a c-section in the end but ever thing turn out all right So far its sounds like you will maybe have like around 7 to 8 lbs so don't worry it will all turn out good

  2. there really is no way to tell. they can only "guestimate". the docs said my son would be "about" 7 lbs. - i went into labor, pushed for THREE hours only to end up having a c-section... he came out at 9 lbs. 2 oz.... all they could say was, "if we knew he was gonna be that big we would have to scheduled the c-section"... - nice eh? - but on the other hand, some people have no problem delivering 10 pounders. you just won't know until you are there at that moment. - the good thing is... there are plenty of drugs out there to help with the pain! - i ended up having another baby, scheduled c-section. - it's not as bad as i thought it would be. i was home painting my toenails 4 days later... - good luck, and don't stress!!!!!!!!!

  3. It usually is determined by the father. If the babies in his family are generally big or small, yours may be too. But that's not always true. My son was 8.5 and was 10 days early. I'm a small girl and I ended up having a c-section because I was too small... Well my pelvis bone was bent up so he wouldn't fit. Hope this helps. And by the way I gained 43 lbs total. But I was very small to begin with. Depends on your size how much weight you should gain.

  4. my DD was 6.2lbs and she got stuck. 30 hour labour then sent for op. not to put you off or anything, but it happens even if there small

Also DP neice was 15lbs and was born naturally. Ifyou dont want to tear i would recommend a birthing pool as the water will soften you perineum
