She is a German Shepherd and this is her first (planned) pregnancy. It is her 60th day and her temperature has been going up and down for the last 24 hours(99.2-100.0). At about 7pm tonight I noticed a clear discharge (I understand it is normal). At about 10:00pm she started nest hard, in and out of her box. her breathing is normally pretty heavy and I have noticed it occasionally becoming faster... She is a long haired and I cut her hair back around her stomach and rear so I could have a clean process as well as "hopefully" be able to see her contractions, so far no luck... When I feel her tummy I feel A LOT of movement, when sitting or standing it is tense/hard and when laying down fairly soft(once) She has laid down a few times however whenever i go in the check on her she seems to get up. She is drinking water and a treat...

  1. sounds like they are coming very very soon.

just let her go im sure you will soon find healthy puppies somewhere =]

or if your in doubt call the vet.

good luck with everything and find great homes for them!

  2. It will be very obvivious... her temperature will drop, as you can see the 99.2 -100.0 seems pretty normal. It should not go below 98 degrees.

She might whimper or cry... don't be overbearing because you might stress the mother (enough said). You should be able to feel the puppies through the stomach and might even see little lumps showing through.

***Also be sure to have ice cream because the mother will need it, or another form of calcium and she will eat the placenta, it's normal, remember to play pass the puppy.

  3. shell start crying when she gets it

  4. Well the tell tale for my dog was a banana tail but you have a gsd and it might not curve, but the stomach should start to ripple. do you have a space for her to have labor if so id get her there soon. and keep her there, you might start to see the sac coming out soon so yeah it might be best to keep her in the area.
