How will Juan Martin Del Potro fair at the U.S. Open?

He is on a win streak right now and is doing great. But I noticed on thing, during this win streak, he has only played two top 10 players, Andy Roddick and Richard Gasquet. With that said, how far do you think Del Potro will get at the U.S. Open where all the top players will be, players much better than Roddick and Gasquet?

  1. He is definitely got the potential to be a great player, lets see how he handles playing with the big boys ;):P He has to be consistent and keep playing high level of tennis !!!

  2. Even beating 2 top 10 players in his win streak is pretty impressive. What's even more impressive is how consistently well he's been playing during that streak. If he continues to play that well, he can go pretty far with a favorable draw -we'll just have to see.

  3. No doubt that his on a hot winning streak but it still too early to put him in the contender list for the US Open as he's still very young.  But no doubt that he is a good player and still have rooms for improvement.  If give him a couple more years, I think he might had a shot at it.  Even he is not a contender for the title this year but he is a dangerous floater and no players would like to face him especially in the early round.  After reaching another final in Washington, expecting his ranking will rise up even higher for him to earn a higher seeding in order to get a good draw in the Open.  My prediction would be - With a higher seeding(avoid top players in the early round) and a good rest without pushing his body too hard, he might go through a couple rounds.  And might go even further if he can caused some upsets. PREDICTION: A FOURTH ROUNDER

  4. Who cares how many top tenners he has beaten, hes looking bloody good. Ramsteinfan is right about nobody wanting to face him early on... I will scream if hes in Roger's early draw!! I was gonna ask a question about this guy too but I kinda just got my answers. Dodgy vollying isnt that much of a weakness *cough nadal*, you can probably win tournys without approaching the net once. I dunno if I like Del Porto... I've seen those pics of him modelling thinking hes all cool haha. Still, its great to see a good talent on the tour (but I'm still gunning for Gulbis to improve the most).

I think US Open success depends heavily on his draw, he doesn't wanna come up against someone too hard early on. Eg. a top tenner

  5. He's on a phenomenal run right now. If he wins tomorrow, he will have won four straight tournaments. More amazingly, he will have won his first four tournaments ever in a row. His game looks great too. Big serve, huge groundstrokes, and impressive movement.  What's more, he looks so effortless and relaxed. If he can work on his volleying, which has been somewhat suspect, he could have a great future in the game. Many pundits suggest that he could reach the top five and/or win Slams and, with the way he's been playing over the past month, it would be hard to dispute that prediction.

As far as his chances at THIS US Open, I don't see him as a likely contender just yet. He is only 19 years old and his game still has room for improvement. Also, his stamina over the course of a long five set match remains to be seen, so I don't yet see him beating the top guys and winning this time round. That said, he will certainly go in as a dangerous dark-horse who no one will want to face, especially early on.

  6. Del Potro still has some raw areas to improve. Against real top guns  like Nadal, Djokovic, Federer, Davydenko ? Not yet. But the US Open will prove his greatness.
