I don't get it. I don't understand how Nadal will become no.1 on 18 Aug.

And what if Federer wins the olympics? Will Rafa still be the no.1 the next day?

  1. Due to him winning the majors and beating federer.  Even if federer won the olympics, it has no bearing on ATP points gained.

  2. On Aug 18, last years points for Toronto and Cincinnati come off and since Roger has done a lot worse this year and Nadal a lot better, he will be number one.

Nadal will be number one irrespective of what happens in the olympics,  even if Federer wins the gold and nadal loses in the first round. But Federer will be very close to Nadal in the points in that case, I think less than hundred.

  3. Yes :)! Rafa deserves the #1 ranking...how can u not get it ? Look how many tournaments he`s won this year. Also achieveing two of the hardest grandslams The French yet again for the 4th time and dethroning Roger at Wimbledon, simply fantastic from the spainard! Vamos Rafa

  4. Actually, there is a really slim, and I mean really slim, like Rafa breaking his leg slim chance he can be overthrown. Because during Aug. 18, Federer will lose his 800 some points, and Rafa will only lose like 260...That puts Rafa 365 points ahead of Federer.

    BUT

If Federer win's gold in the olympics, and Rafa gets kicked out in the first two rounds(unlikely), Federer will barely stay No.1

    However, that's really unlikely...

  5. yesnadal would be no. 1 even if federer wind gold

  6. yes definitely.he will become no.1 through his labour.

  7. The ATP DOES award ranking points for participating in the Olympics. The gold medal is worth 400 points. However, on August 18, Nadal will lead Federer by more than 400 points (I'm not sure of the exact math behind it), so even if Federer wins the gold Nadal will still be number one. On August 18 the points from the last two Masters Series events from the 2007 are removed.

  8. Well he will if he wins another match(grand slam) he will become no.1. It doesn't matter who wins the olympics cuz it doesn't count for the WTA ranking.

  9. it doesnt matter...he will still get it...he has defeated federer too many times

  10. simply because he has accumulated enough points to overtake roger..

i think rafa would still be no.1 even if roger wins the olympics. why don't you check everything at the atp website, it's all there..=)
