How will Obama change health insurance and life insurance?

I drank on and off from the age of 18 to 19. When I was 19, I got a DUI and the court told me I was an alcoholic. I have not drank since the night of my arrest and have been sober 2 years. I am 21.

I am depressed because I think that if I apply for a health insurance policy or life insurance, they will turn me down or give my lousy rates because I am an alcoholic.

Why do I have to carry this label for life? I have only drank about 10 times in my whole life and I quit after my DUI.

Would Obama change the stimga that is attached to former alcoholics and people labeld as former alcoholics?

I am in great health, but all they will think of me as is a defective person.

Should I vote for Obama????

  1. Voting for Obama (or not) will have no effect on your insurance eligibility.

  2. It will not follow you for life as long as you stay on the wagon and don't get anymore DUI's. It will depend on the company. With health insurance - in my state one DUI will not have any effect on the rates after two years with several companies up to 8 years with other companies. With life insurace - 2 to 10 years.

As the above poster said, voting or not voting for Obama will have no effect on your insurability.

  3. No U.S. President has the power to do what you are asking if Obama will do.  This is primarily up to the insurance companies, and, to a lesser degree, Congress.
