  1. well with my personal expierence, i have found for a cheaper less timley , and frankly lesser power system, a vented box would work. But if you really want to have a "pounding" system, then a sealed box sounds like your best bet. Just remember though the box is sealed and sounding great, the subwoofer has no fresh, cold or re-circulated air coming in to keep it cool, so it may overheat and cause dammage to the spaeaker itself! Goodluck!

  2. Go with the first one because it is not too big. You can "fool" a sub into thinking that it is in a bigger box by adding polyester fiber stuffing (The sound wave coming off the back of your subwoofer reacts with the air contained in the box. Polyester fiber stuffing slows down sound waves inside the box, making the subwoofer perform as if the box were bigger. Use 1 to 1-1/2 pounds of stuffing per cubic foot of box volume.) http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/I...

here are the differences in boxes

Sealed boxes: For deep, precise bass

A sealed box is an airtight enclosure housing your subwoofer. A sealed box is best for any music that demands tight, accurate bass. Expect flat response (not excessively boomy), deep bass extension, and excellent power handling. Since a sealed enclosure tends to require more power than a ported box, use an amplifier with ample wattage for optimum performance.

    Ported boxes: For forceful bass

Ported boxes use a vent (called a port) to reinforce low bass response. You get more output than you would from a sealed box at any given amplifier wattage. Some people prefer the sound of ported boxes for rap or any hard-driving music. Ported boxes can deliver deeper bass than sealed boxes, though they need to be much larger than sealed enclosures to accomplish that.

  3. well my cousin is up on this and i asked him about this before.....he says that vented enclosures allow your sound to be more clear and crisp, but it won't be as "boomy"
