  1. Mainly through observation. If the child looks like he/she has mastered the task or their skills within that task have improved they have learnt something.

    Also look for generalisations of the types of things you are teaching in the selected activity.

The adult should have provided  activities to suit the individual children through their planning and preparation using observation and assessment.They will  observe them carefully throughout the session and will be able to assess which children  need to revisit the activities and which children are ready for a new challenge.

  3. You could try handing out a survey to them at the end.

  4. when you give the child the activities to do again they will show how well they understood it

  5. test them on it. or ask them questions.

  6. If this question is pertaining to preschool age children the best way is through observation.  They or not old enough, nor is it developmentally appropriate to perform a "test".  In your objectives for your lesson there should be things that are observable and can produce an outcome such as the children will correctly hold the pencil while writing their name.  You can see them holding the pencil and you have an outcome, their name.  In your lesson you may also want to put a section for further activities if the students do not reach their goal (objective).  Hope this helps!
