  1. It doesn't. The technology we have today for drilling would make it to where it has little to NO effect on the ecosystem. Everybody's so worried about "Oil Spills". If you ever hear anybody say that, ask them if they wanna pay 10 bucks a gallon for fuel, or take a chance. I don't know about you, but I'm VERY willing to take that chance. Florida's worried about their "economy". I live in Alabama, so don't say I don't care about Florida, because I do(that's my vacation), but you can only see so far across the horizon!! A 6 foot person can only see 3 miles over a horizon. If you drill 20 miles off the coast, you may not even know it's there!! Obama and the Senate wanna see how much you can take, how much you can suffer. My vote's going to McCain come time to vote, at least he's TRYING to make a solution unlike obama.

  2. The platforms are ugly and fishing is a little more difficult because of the hazard to navigation. There's great fishing near the platforms though, because the green stuff that grows on them attract little fish, which in turn attract big fish.

There is some minor environmental impact of drilling, with the muds that are used.

There is lots of oil related pollution off Lousiana and Texas; ironically, this comes from the tankers from overseas that flush their tanks, not from the platforms. From the air, you can see the oil trails for miles behind the ships. Discharges from the platforms are cleaner than the seawater, because of EPA requirements.

  3. Well, there really are not any cons. As long as all precautions are taken to prevent any type of accidental contamination. The oil rigs take up very little ocean space and are very efficient.
