i want to know some useful tips when playing the monopoly board game the orignal board game.

always purchase the houses after the jail square... this way you will be paying more for the houses but when somone lands on one ... the money you receive will be more :P

buy everything you land on! depending on the way you play and the way the dice fall, you can build up some income and trade properties with the other players

Well....My approach is simple, Probobaly stupid if you have other people playing with you who use this technique, But if not then it works a charm.

Buy as many properties as you can. Aim for at least one-two of each set. Don't aim to get a full set unless you have the money or it is Mayfair or Park Lane.

If you must morgage properties to buy something, then morgage them. When you pass go you will get the money back and can de-morgage them.

The best ones to snap up are the pinks and oranges. They are inxpensive and generate a good amount of money with hotels. People will buy these more often. Try and get quite a few of them.

I always win and always upset everyone because i usually end up with around 15 cards and defeat them gloriously with my empire.

Everyone else usually focuses on getting a set. Your aim would be to prevent them from getting their sets of cards by getting any card you can lay your hands on, which most times will be the one of the ones they need.....Therefore making them pay lots of money for one card ( i usually set the price at £500-1000 for the first side , £750-1500 for the second side, £1000 - £2000 for the third side and then £1500+ for the final side)

People have paid up to £5000 for several card they really want, that even at my guide prices, may of only come to a total of £2000.

It may seem greedy, but you will win, but only of course, as long as everyone else doesn't follow that technique.

statistically the orange and the yellow streets are the best to get, but also try and stop anyone else getting up and groups of housing.

I have read 13 answers now and there are some good strategies in there, but they are all overlooking something.

You can plan to buy whatever you want but if you don't land on it before someone else buys it you have to trade for it.  Strategies are great but you need to be lucky.

play smart and dont blow all your money off have a little to the side in case something happens . get the railroads you can it you give them to some1and  you can agree not to be charged when landing on them . if that doesnt work just keep them ,try to get the all . electric and water r pretty good to

I always try and get the two brown ones first – start small. Hotels on these can bring you in a nice little income to use on other things.

Buy properties that the opponents need in order to complete a set. Other players will be doing the same so make sure you're in a strong position when it comes to negotiation time later on!

Statistically the ORANGE properties have the best Return of Investment. Early in the game you do NOT want to stay in jail.. because you need to acquire properties. However.. late in the game Jail is the most beneficial square.. because you can collect rent without risking landing on a property owned by another player. In regards to buildings.. NEVER buy Hotels. There are 2 reasons: a)The Rate of Investment on Hotels is poor. b)When you buy Hotels.. you're allowing any other player in the game a chance to build the Houses you removed to build the Hotels. Houses are a finite resource in the game.. and thus it's wise to descrease the propensity another player can build multiple houses in the game

While LUCK does play a role in the game.. STRATEGY is far more of a factor in winning the game. Dice.. albeit random.. are nothing more than probability factors one must account for when employing a strategy in the game. The number of dice rolls in the game generally result in a fair amount of "good" and "bad" luck for all players involved.

Buy the properties on that are straight after the jail (purple and orange?) as that is the most passed area what with people always going to jail. Also my top tip is to strike deals involving free rent for yourself. IE you have a card that somebody needs to make a full set, so you say 'you can have it for free if i never get charged rent'. That way everyone else still does exepct you meaning you hurt everybody. And finally, buy as much property as possible when starting out.
